What is an Egg Allergy?
Egg allergies are simply that, an allergic reaction to eggs. Egg allergies are most common in children and can be outgrown, but not always.

Foods to Avoid
Allergies can range in severity from skin rashes and hives, asthma, nasal inflammation, nausea/vomiting, gastrointestinal distress, to anaphylactic shock (constriction of the airways). Anaphylactic shock can be life threatening. Depending on the severity of the allergy a persons'ction will vary.

What foods should I avoid?
Eggs have many chemical properties that make them very useful in cooking; therefore, eggs can be part of various dishes. Below are a few foods that should be avoided (this list is not comprehensive). As with any intolerance, if you are unsure of the ingredients and cannot find the food label, avoid the food.

Foods to avoid/words to look for on a label:

  • Mayonnaise
  • Meringue
  • Most baked goods
  • Orange Julius
  • Caesar dressing
  • Hollandaise sauce
  • Egg noodles
  • Chicken nuggets, chicken parmesan
  • Many breaded meats or dishes
  • Icings
  • Custards
  • Albumin (egg protein)
  • Globulin (egg protein)
  • Ovalbumin
  • Ovaglobulin
