University Dining and Coke Provide Scholarships for Volunteers

July 13, 2010 (Raleigh, NC)—University Dining and Coca-Cola partnered to provide nearly $4,000 to the University Million Meals Event with Stop Hunger Now, a project of Service NC State sponsored by the Center for Student Leadership, Ethics and Public Service.

The event takes place the first weekend of classes on Friday, August 20 and Saturday, August 21 at Talley Student Center and Carmichael Gymnasium. Students will construct meals to be donated for Haiti relief efforts.

During the month of March, University Dining and Coke partnered to donate 25 cents of every 20-ounce Coke purchased in C-Store locations around campus for Haiti relief.

Each volunteer is asked to raise a $50 sponsorship fee, which will feed 200 people. Through the $4,000 donation, University Dining and Coke will cover the sponsorship cost for volunteers who are unable to raise the complete amount.

"CSLEPS is very appreciative of University Dining and Coke's support of the 8th annual Service NC State event. NC State was charged with raising $50,000 to support the cost of packaging 400,000 meals for Stop Hunger Now's Haiti relief effort. This sponsorship will provide fund-raising scholarships for 80 new students at NC State," said Tierza Watts, associate director for CSLEPS.
